SIMON BLOOM: THE GRAVITY KEEPER by Michael Reisman

Reviewed by Schuyler

Simon Bloom is just a boy obsessed with the book The Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe. Simon is a boy with normal parents, goes to a normal New Jersey school and has normal friends. He has a normal life. Everything remains normal until a book drops out of nowhere and knocks him unconscious. His new friend, Owen, who is very dramatic, is there when Simon is knocked out and he sees the entire scene. Simon wakes up with Owen hovering over him, spitting and hyperventilating. Simon takes the strange book home, discovering the incredible powers it gives him. He finds himself in the middle of a war for the book. This book is a science fiction book that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

There are many different details about this book that make it more interesting than other books. A narrator tells the story of Simon, Owen, Alysha, the evil Sirabetta, the Physics council, and their fight for the book. The chapters are short and the chapter titles provide some hints about the some of the events in the next chapter. Cliff-hangers are frequent and leave the reader craving more. The author brings back the evil characters just when Simon certainly doesn’t need anymore on his plate. The suspense is incredible. The reader does not know if the wicked characters will claim the book from Simon or if he will keep it. The writer uses an informal writing style with this book. The writer has organized his book as a narrative. This is a fun book with a theme; never believe anything is impossible. Simon thought flying and jumping 100 feet high were impossible, but he realizes nothing is impossible as he receives the book.

I recommend this book to many groups of people. I recommend this to any gender, and any age above nine years old.  People who enjoy fiction or science fiction, like Harry Potter and the Pendragon series, would benefit from this book. Readers who crave action, would enjoy this book quite a bit. I give this book a 5-star rating.
